I’m not sure if this takes the fun out of weird intonations and un-well-temperedness, but Gibson is now selling an amazing guitar that Is. A. Robot.
It’s got an onboard computer, to recognize “in-tuneness” and the pegs are motorized, so they can tune themselves.
Instantly. To whatever tuning you pick.
The machine comes with the typical altered tuning presets – double drop-D for “Cinnamon Girl,” E flat for, well, lots of stuff – but you can also set your own presets if you want to be Sonic Youth… or beyond. I’m not sure if it does microtonalism or not, but I think it might – you set the thing, after all.
