ABSTRACT:
I really like the way the music part of this song came together, even though (or maybe because) it sounds an awful lot like a song that I’ve really liked for more than 15 years. It’s not identical, but on reflection a little too George-Harrison-singing-“My-Sweet-Lord” for comfort.

It’s a song about finding a home that had been lost – so lost, it was forgotten, except for some white limestone gravel stretching from Spain to Iran. So I guess that kind of unearthing from long ago is only appropriate. (I’m not going to say what other person’s song I hear in this, because if it’s not obvious to you, then maybe I’m hearing things, and if it is obvious, then I don’t really need to name it, do I.)

This is one that had a melody and music charted out weeks in advance, and then days of me going, huh, should it rhymed or what? Should the choruses be about something different than the verses? So, words written last minute for the most part. I like the last bit of the chorus, about Adria being home.

Maybe there are other people who need to feel like there’s a place somewhere.

Still struggling a little with keeping vocals from clipping on this new/used laptop. I think I really need a for-real USB audio input and maybe need to give up on using the line-in with the Mackie mixer at long last. I’ll have to see if I can find one of them somewhere, somehow.

LYRICS

Lyrics Continent

V1
Pavement
Stacked into buildings
Over foundations
Locked underground

We save this
Scattered like gravel
High in the mountains
Finally found

CH1
All this time tracing lines,
Naming layers

Lost our way, Swallowed place
All that stays is
White limestone – How we know,
Where I go…

Bring me home
Adria

V2
Earthquakes
Breaking rock slides
Miles piled up
Mountains won

Draw an atlas
of countries vanished
Start in Spanish
End in Iran

CH2
All this time tracing lines,
Naming layers

Lost our way, Swallowed place
All that stays is
White limestone – How we know,
Where I go…

Bring me home
Adria

V3
Plates crash
Spinning like saw blades
Volcanos and landslides
A continent gone

Some day
We might go back there
We can go back there
We’ll go home.

CH3
All this time tracing lines,
Naming layers

Lost our way, Swallowed place
All that stays is
White limestone – How we know,
Where I go…

Bring me home
Adria
