SONG:
ARTIST: grant.
SOURCE: This has no scientific source; it’s a penitential cover for being late for I’m not even sure which song – I think March. It was originally by the Velvet Underground, although the canonical version is the one Lou Reed did later on with David Bowie.
ABSTRACT: Back in April, my college buddy Christian recorded a Velvet Underground song with his teenage son, and it turned out really pretty, and one thing led to another, and he challenged me and my son to do “I’ll Be Your Mirror.” My son… resisted that concept. And he resisted this one, too.
So I did this one all alone. Minimal as possible. Two vocal tracks, a drum, a bass and a guitar. The main vocals, I decided to lay on a heavy auto-tune because it’s a song that – as far as I can tell – is about feeling alienated in the middle of affection, which is something that I think the auto-tune carries with it.
I’m very happy with how this one turned out. I’ve still got another penitential cover yet to complete, but this one is quite satisfactory. Fading in the distance.
