This is part of a presentation created by physicist Gerard K. O’Neill – one of three “summer studies” he carried out in the 1970s on potential space colony designs for NASA’s Ames Research Center. Curving walls, the blackness of space, but lots of greenery and smiling faces.
It seems to be the interior of a Bernal Sphere Habitat, but I couldn’t swear to that. I’m not even sure of the proper name or catalog number of this image – the Ames Research Center page that once hosted it has gone, and the artist’s website doesn’t include that info, nor do numerous other pages that host images from the NASA collection.
But it’s too great not to share.
