Science Art: Le miscroscope [La Science], 1908.

Scientific illustration of science, personified, contemplating beside her microscope.

This is a metal engraving by Charles Philippe Pillet, which I found in the Paris Museums Collections.

It’s considered a “numismatic” piece, but I don’t believe it’s an actual coin – just a rectangular piece of metal, painstakingly shaped into a beautiful woman, pensive, contemplating the nature of reality before her miscroscope. Or microscope. The lenses, at any rate, that render the invisible visible.
